Brachioplasty is an ‘Arm-Lift’ cosmetic surgery; it is a surgical procedure to remove loose skin and excess fat deposits in the upper arm. With age, upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. Plastic surgeons will discuss brachioplasty with patients who want to tighten this skin and look as good as they feel.
Brachioplasty (‘Arm-Lift’ cosmetic surgery) is the medical term for an upper arm lift Cosmetic surgery procedure. During Brachioplasty (‘Arm-Lift’ cosmetic surgery) surgery excess fat and skin is removed from the upper arm area in order to create a firmer more youthful looking arm contour. A Brachioplasty (‘Arm-Lift’ cosmetic surgery) can enhance the appearance of arms that, with age or weight loss, have lost their natural firmness and shape.
Patients
who have had mastectomy surgery may not be able
to have a brachioplasty because of the increased
risks repeated armpit infections or also people
with excess sweat production may also not be
good candidates for brachioplasty cosmetic surgery.
Loose
upper arm skin is most often related to weight
loss. If you were ever overweight, you more
than likely developed heavy upper arms. To accommodate
the increased volume of the upper arms, your
skin stretched. After weight loss, the skin
often fails to tighten, and so it sags. The
only way to improve this problem is through
an arm lift.
Not
if your problem is due to loose skin. The only
time lipo is a better choice is when there is
a lot of fat and the skin is tight. When the
skin is loose, an arm lift is usually the best
choice.
This
is done under local or general anaesthesia.
The excess skin is marked before anaesthesia.
The incision extends from elbow to the arm pit.
Only skin and soft tissue is excised from the
inner side of the arm.
Scars
are the greatest drawback of this operation. They
will extend from the armpit to the elbow, along
the inside of the arm. This operation exchanges
one cosmetic problem (loose skin) for another
(scars). In general, those with very loose saggy
skin are most likely to find this exchange worthwhile.
Those with a small amount of looseness will probably
not want the scars.
All surgical procedures have some amount of uncertainty and risk. Fortunately, a brachioplasty or upper arm lift procedure is very safe when performed by a certified plastic surgeon. Any questions or concerns you may have will be answered by your doctor during your initial consultation.
After the Surgery
The arm lift procedure's recovery phase follows the surgery. During this phase, the patient is awakened (if they received a general anesthetic) and moved to a recovery room where nurses monitor the patient's vital statistics for approximately two hours. The patient may experience a number of sensations during this time, including, but not limited to, discomfort, emotional anguish, nausea or uncontrollable shivering. The hospital staff can assist the patient during this time by supplying pain relievers, anti-nausea medications, warm blankets and other amenities.

You will have dressings covering your upper arms immediately after your Brachioplasty. To promote healing, it is essential to leave these bandages on for as long as you are instructed by your plastic surgeon. Gradually, swelling will decrease and you may remove your bandages to debut your newly sculpted and enhanced arms.
Patients are typically able to return to work about one week after their upper arm lift. However, it is recommended to wait several weeks before partaking in any strenuous activity. This will help with the healing process and minimize the formation of unsightly scars. With healthy eating and exercise habits, you can permanently benefit from your Brachioplasty results. By managing your weight and getting plenty of exercise, you will never have to be self-conscious in tank tops or tighter-fitting clothing again.
